As you all know by now, I love anything and everything related to style and clothing. What you may not know is that my passion for fashion also includes giving back to the community, recycling and repurposing. How you ask? We all know that as the seasons change, our wardrobe changes with it! So what do you do with all of that stuff you just piled up and cleaned out?Donate it to Goodwill, of course!

Thanks to the programs and support services made possible by donations of clothes and household items, more than 261,000 people earned jobs in 2013 – that’s one person finding a job every 27 seconds of every business day. So you’re literally donating your stuff AND helping to create jobs. That is a Win/Win in my opinion.

Maybe you weren’t even planning a big wardrobe purge this season? Take just a few minutes and think about your closet, your drawers, your storage. Do you have something in there that you haven’t used in ages? The stuff you no longer use could be something extremely special to someone else. When you donate your stuff to Goodwill, the revenue from the sale of your donations helps fund job training and placement opportunities for people with disabilities and disadvantages directly in your community. Talk about cleaning with a purpose!

Will you show me your stuff?

We’ve all seen those shopping haul videos on YouTube. In fact, some fashion bloggers even make them about their thrift shop finds from Goodwill (Watch one here). If you’re like me, you may get style inspiration (or a major case of wardrobe envy) from your favorite celebs.

You may not have tickets to Fashion Week or a closet full of couture, but you can be a trendsetter for good by sharing a “Reverse Haul” photo or video of items you plan to donate to Goodwill.

Share YOUR reverse hauls with me using #DonateStuffCreateJobs, @JNSantaniello and @GoodwillIntl. Use the donation impact calculator to let the world know how many hours of on-the-job training you could be creating with your used stuff – stuff that doesn’t help anyone when it’s stuffed in the back of your closet or under your bed!
